Happy New School Year!  I go away from work for 9 weeks and the Ministry decides to send all the Boards money.  Apparently over the summer they used their super computer to find out all the names of students under the age of 18 who are not registered.  Our Board was asked to contact over 600 students (not really a huge number when we have more than 100,000 students).  Our department was not called in to find these students but the Board was able to hire retired teaching staff to try and find them.  Later this month our department may be asked to find the leftovers.  What happened at your Boards?

A couple of our group assisted a writing team for SALEP early in July.  I will pass on information from them when I have information.

Lifeline

As LifelineEditor I must tell you that the Lifeline is only as good as the information that I have sent to me or find to go into the publication. I am now gathering articles and submissions for the Fall Lifeline. I try to have this publication ready for distribution before the end of November. Take Note
The Provincial School Attendance Counsellor (PSAC) Anthony Di Lena is our new Provincial School Attendance Counsellor Anthony has been with the Ministry of Education since 2000 when he started as an Education Officer responsible for Secondary School Policy for Guidance and Career Education. Since then he moved in 2004 to assist with the start of the Student Success Initiative. In 2007, he became a Senior Manager with the Student Success/Learning to 18- Implementation, Training and Evaluation Branch where he remained until this recent appointment. Prior to joining the Ministry Anthony began his teaching experience with the Toronto Catholic Board and then the York Region Catholic Board was he was the Head of Guidance. Along the way he served as President and the Executive of the Ontario School Counsellors’ Association (OSCA). Anthony is very familiar with the important and complex role the members of OACAS play in our education system. Having spend a significant portion of his career as a guidance counsellor and administrator in the publicly funded education system before coming to the Ministry in 2000, he is extremely appreciative of the work done and the challenges facing attendance counsellors and the Association.
